For this project, we were asked to use classic Grimm fairytale stories to create a "book" that showcased a stylistic theme of choice. For my book, the design was inspired by the concept of modern wealth and its prevalence in high-end fashion. Stylistically, the book models a fashion catalog that displays modern wealth as conspicuous and evil. This idea is heightened through the common element of an evil stepmother in each tale, which is also noted in the descriptions below the titles of each tale. The evil stepmother in these tales parallels the perceived idea of wealthy people as the “villains” of our capitalistic society today. Another noteworthy element is the creation of each image. As a challenge for myself, I wanted to create each image using artificial intelligence (AI). Because AI is a technology that isn't going away anytime soon, I needed to gain a better understanding of how to successfully utilize it in my work. By using Microsoft's Copilot, which was newly released in 2023 (this project took place in 2024), I successfully developed each image in the book through careful and descriptive prompting of the algorithm.
